52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks - week 52 "Looking Ahead"

Like the road to hell, in 2022 I had good intentions to participate in this genealogy blogging challenge by Amy Johnson Crow. The concept was intriguing and I knew I wanted to start writing my ancestors' stories. But I moved in mid-January, took some time to settle in, got busy, and life got away from me. I loved reading everyone else's stories and they gave me so many good ideas.

So, I'm "Looking Ahead" to next year's challenge. I hope to write a blog post every week (note to self: block out time on my calendar to do this). I have a trip to the New York State Library and Archives planned for the spring - my goal is to research my Civil War ancestors' GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) memberships and activities. I belong to a surname genealogy group (the Chapman Family Association) and their conference is in June.

I'm also planning a trip to the Wayne County, New York clerk's office to review their real estate records. I want to document that this house, built in 1875, was once owned by my great-grandfather Frank Chapman. The photo to the left was taken by my parents about 20 years ago. I visited the site with my aunt and uncle this past summer - it looks quite different now as there's a huge privacy fence and has brown siding. This will be my first time doing this kind of research.
